The Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) exam process includes application review, exam scheduling, testing, and score reporting. This FAQ addresses common questions candidates have after submitting an application.
What happens after I submit my RAC application?
After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email indicating your application was successfully submitted. If additional information is required, or if your application is selected for audit, the RAC Program Office will contact you directly.
When will I receive my Authorization to Test (ATT)?
Pearson VUE sends Authorization to Test (ATT) emails after the application deadline has passed. The ATT email contains instructions for creating your Pearson VUE account and scheduling your exam appointment.
I have not received my ATT. What should I do?
Before contacting RAPS:
- Check your spam, junk, and promotions folders.
- Verify that you are checking the email address used on your application.
- Search your inbox for emails from Pearson VUE.
Candidates are encouraged to safelist:

If you still cannot locate your ATT, contact the RAPS Program Office for assistance.
How do I schedule my exam?
After receiving your ATT, log in to the Pearson VUE scheduling site and select either:
- In person testing, or
- Online testing
Candidates should schedule as early as possible to maximize date, time, and location options. All exams must be scheduled at least two days before the testing window closes.
Can I change my appointment after scheduling?
Yes. Candidates may change the date, time, or location of an appointment through their Pearson VUE account, provided the change remains within the same testing window.
Can I change from online testing to in person testing?
Yes. Testing modality changes can be made through your Pearson VUE account.
Can I transfer to another testing window?
Yes. Candidates may transfer to the next testing window by contacting the RAPS Program Office.
Transfers requested before the application deadline are free. Transfer fees apply after the application deadline. Candidates are limited to two testing window transfers.
What happens if I miss my exam appointment?
Failure to schedule or attend an appointment is considered a no show.
Examples include:
- Not scheduling an exam during the testing window.
- Missing a scheduled appointment.
- Arriving more than 30 minutes late.
- Failing to present acceptable identification.
No show candidates forfeit their exam fees and must submit a new application to test in a future window.
What identification is required on exam day?
Candidates must present a valid government issued photo ID that exactly matches the name used during registration.
If the name on your ID does not match your registration, you will not be permitted to test.
How many questions are on the RAC exam?
The RAC exam consists of 120 multiple choice questions and must be completed within two and a half hours.
What types of questions appear on the exam?
Questions are written at three levels:
- Recall
- Application
- Analysis
Questions assess both regulatory knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge to real world regulatory situations.
How is the exam scored?
Exam scores are reported on a scaled score ranging from 0 to 550. The scaled score is not a percentage and does not correspond to the number of questions answered correctly.
When will I receive my exam results?
Exam results are typically released 8 to 16 weeks after the close of the testing window.
Results are sent by email and are only released to the candidate. Results are not provided by telephone.
If I do not pass, when can I retake the exam?
Candidates who do not pass may apply for the next testing window. Exams cannot be retaken during the same testing window. A new application is required for each attempt.
